a new adventure in hair removal

if you have ever met me, heard of me, or looked at my facebook profile you know that hair removal is one of my interests. and hobbies. and pastimes. and subjects.

so today while visiting the fam for the last time in coronado before they go back to the heat, i made an appointment to get my eyebrows and mustache did at la-di-da day spa. there are a few reasons why i wanted to go there
1. it's an aveda salon and aveda rules. the scent is like a time machine that brings me back to senior year of college.
mmm...aveda hair stick.
2. despite the gay name, it looked like the only place on coronado that's not for geriatrics - and estelle getty we miss you already.
3. they have "butt crack" on the menu. it's $15+. the plus is for if you're extra hairy.

but most importantly, la-di-da day spa specializes in sugaring - which is one h.r. technique i have never tried.

sugaring works like this: the aesthetician puts on latex gloves and rubs baby powder all over your mustache. (you can't do sugaring for brows because it's not precise enough). then she takes a warm ball of honey-colored substance (think amber silly putty about the size of a marble) and smooshes it on your mustache. over and over and you can feel the hairs coming out as she kneads it and rolls it on your mustache. this might sound unpleasant but it was fun and there was no - 'here comes the rip' anticipation. and when it's over, she washes off any remnants with water. no wax in the sides of my mouth, no breakouts on the way.

mailette (aesthetician and owner of the place) said that it's great for bikini - brazilian, playboy, however you fly. and it's all done with fingers, no sticks. she said it hurts less and it's faster than waxing. she said if i had time she'd do it for me. i should have taken her up on it but my mom was in the waiting room. maybe next summer?
