i'm a DOUBLE winner tonight!
1. brooke white went home tonight on american idol. finally.
2. i won at DQB!
DQB is Drag Queen Bingo - a weekly going-on at Hamburger Mary's in West Hollywood. Ben was trying to cheer me up from a lousy day with a walk around the neighborhood. We came upon the establishment and could hear the screaming from across the street. We went up to the door and the man (and his poodle) working the door told us that for $20 we would get a book of cards for 10 bingo games and an extra card for the grand prize. Now, I am a Lipson. This means that a love for BINGO runs through my veins. We are a Bingo loving people.
The game was "Rim Job" - which as our hostess Belle Aire (pictured far left) described it, is "a ring around your free space". Out of the few hundred participants, _I_ was the lucky winner!! In H.M's tradition, when you win you have to run around the bar while people pelt you with their wadded up bingo cards. While I was doing my victory lap the crowd sang "Kara got a Rim Job! And she liked it!" over and over.
My winnings include:
-gourmet trends chocolate xpress (as seen on TV)
-bodum milk frother
-tea forte tea trays for silken tea infusers
-marilyn monroe mug
-yellow suctioncup-type ball
-free 3 hour self defense course provided by NOW (National Organization of Women)
pretty rad.

blue mini got screwed
poor mini. tonight while driving home from work the dreaded 'flat tire alert' came on. right in the middle of my newest book on tape, Fleeced by Carol Higgins Clark. i pulled off the freeway into a gas station, and discovered that some jagoff lost a screw on the 10 East and mini found it with his front tire.
lucky for me, there were 3 AAA tow-trucks with drivers in the parking lot of the mobil located at national bl. and overland ave. i called AAA, told the operator that i was in a gas station staring at three of their service providers from Brentwood Car Club (a coincidence, as that was who he was sending to my aid), and was told that one them would be right there to help.
then i walked over to these gents who were each enjoying a plastic-tipped cigarillo, told them that within moments one of them would get the call, and when he did, i'd be just 10 feet away awaiting assistance. one of them said "we could have helped you if you hadn't called AAA, but now we have to wait for them to send us over."
10 minutes later, the youngest dude, kevyan, approached. but not to help. he came over to tell me they were still waiting to get the call from dispatch.
about 10 minutes after that, imagine our collective surprise when a 4th AAA truck pulls up. Mostafa hops out, says he's responding to a service call for a blue mini with a flat, and changed the hell out of that tire.

Posting from Jury Duty
I am on jury duty. This does not mean i am here waiting to see if i'll get picked, or hoping that i wont be. That was last week. On wednesday of last week i was not only picked to be a JUROR! but i was picked to be a juror on what is probably going to be a 14 day case. that's 14 court days. or almost 3 weeks!
Good things about jury duty are:
1. our judge is a lady and a saucy lady at that. she often times has been caught rolling her eyes or mouthing "come on!" when people are on the stand. My jury friends swear they've caught her surfing on myspace during testimony.
2. i have made friends with at least 3 of my co-panelists. (here they are) until the trial is over i will refer to them as jurors #1, #6 and #7 - so's that the parties involved do not try to contact them through my blog to sweet talk them or try to buy their vote.
3. downtown la is pretty rad. i park at the disney music hall and strut around this courthouse like i know where i'm going.
4. right now i'm in the jury holding-room, which is where all the people who are waiting to see if they'll get picked are hanging out. they have wireless internet in here and also they have people snoring, yammering on cel phones, and making excuses for why they can't serve.
i am due upstairs to my courtroom in a few minues. i'm juror #4. Here's a sweet pic of my badge.
